ABOUT
Hi! I’m Michael. I’m an award winning photographer and designer based out of Canberra who specialises in Theatre and Dance Photography and promotion.
THE BEGINNING
Like the old expression goes: 'Born in a Trunk', I was born into a life surrounded by musical theatre and dance. My mother and father were regular players on and off-stage for over 30 years. My mother (Jan Kennedy) is a certified dance teacher and has produced and directed over 25 musicals, and in 2017 I made my directorial debut co-directing The Rockhampton Grammar School's production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' along side her. Countless hours of my youth were spent watching my older sister (Liz Perez) dance, on her journey to becoming a professional dancer and teacher. I've spent over a decade photographing theatre and dance and it still remains my passion to this day.

The Capricorn School of Dancing has had the pleasure of working with Michael Kennedy Photography since our very first studio shoot in 2016. Since then we have never looked elsewhere for Dance and Theatre photography. Over the past four years Michael has captured my most favourite dancing memories, both in the studio and on stage. Michael’s photos bring to life the magical moments of the stage, often revealing hidden gems that you may otherwise fail to notice as an audience member in a theatre. His photos make you feel like you are experiencing the energy and action of the stage in one brilliant snapshot. His calm and thoughtful presence makes each and every experience a dream.

Michael does the most amazing photos. He has an ability to catch moments and emotions that extend out from the dancer reach across the image and connect with the viewer. He does this whilst making the dancers feel comfortable and free to be themselves. Proud is a tough word but yes very proud but also very appreciative of the opportunity to see the way Michael has showcased those moments.

Husband, Father and lets be honest, a bit of a nerd. When I'm not photographing something I'm either spending time with family, painting, watching a show or woefully singing in the shower.
